Gernot Nikolaus is a Project Assistant in the Climate Risk Analytics team at UNU-EHS. Specializing in GIS, remote sensing, and cartography, his work focuses on linking geospatial analysis with climate risk modelling and translating complex datasets into clear, policy-relevant cartographic and visual outputs.
Prior to joining UNU-EHS, he worked with the German Leprosy and Tuberculosis Relief Association (DAHW), where he supported a project addressing three Neglected Tropical Diseases from a geospatial and analytical perspective in Togo. Gernot holds a double MSc in Geoinformatics, Earth Observation, and Cartography (Copernicus Master in Digital Earth) from the University of Salzburg and Palacký University Olomouc. His master’s thesis focused on flood vulnerability analysis in Punjab, Pakistan. He completed a BEng in Geovisualization at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt, where he analyzed the spatial distribution of Buruli Ulcer and Yaws in Togo.
