We are pleased to share the MCII Gender Vision  as adopted at our 2022 Membership Assembly. We are committed to strengthen our engagement in gender integration and look forward to share and exchange knowledge with the climate and disaster risk financing and insurance (CDRFI) community and beyond.

Gender is currently prominent in the media, be it the protests in Iran, the situation of women in Afghanistan or the discussions around the “one love” armband at the soccer World Cup in Qatar. Gender is not only a side topic, it is relevant for all societies and organizations. It also plays a role when extreme weather events strike, such as droughts and floods, as women are often hit harder.

Socially constructed gender norms and roles often lead to gender inequalities and can make it difficult for women, girls and gender-diverse individuals to benefit from resilience-building measures. Moreover, they can suffer further marginalization when gender issues do not receive the attention they need. Women act as conduits of social change and progress, making it pivotal for social change organizations like ours to empower them through a gender-informed and gender-engaged approach. With this in mind, we recognize the need to carefully review gender aspects when working on CDRFI in different regions of the world.

We commit to gender equality at an institutional level and ensure that inequalities are not reinforced or perpetuated in and through our projects. In addition, we strive to empower women, girls, and gender-diverse people proactively, advocating for and implementing gender-smart solutions and approaches in the areas of CDRFI.

We established a gender task force and are working closely with local partners, international partners, donors and our host organization UNU-EHS. Our ongoing activities aim to strengthen capacity, raise awareness and to better integrate gender considerations in our projects.
