Applications Open: Joint MSc in Geography of Environmental Risks and Human Security
The University of Bonn and the United Nations University – Institute for Environment and Human Security are now accepting applications for their renowned Joint Master of Science in Geography of Environmental Risks and Human Security.
This interdisciplinary programme combines advanced theoretical and applied perspectives to explore the emergence of environmental risks, natural hazards, and their impacts on human - nature interactions. Through the programme, students gain a strong foundation in geography while engaging directly with global challenges, from disaster risk reduction to climate change adaptation.
A highlight of the programme is the dedicated module on climate and disaster risk financing and insurance which is delivered by many of our very own Associated Experts at MCII, and features contributions by MCII Members. In this course, students explore how innovative risk finance and insurance solutions are applied in practice across the Global South. Case studies and applied exercises address hazard and exposure modelling, the role of nature-based solutions, and economic evaluations of adaptation measures. The module also introduces major international policy processes, including the UNFCCC, Sendai Framework, and the SDGs, that guide global action on climate risk management and loss and damage.
Please note, applications are open until 15 December 2025. For further details and application information, please visit: https://unu.edu/ehs/learning/msc-geography-environmental-risks-and-human-security
