New Publication: Innovative Solutions for Building Climate Resilience: The Role of Climate Risk Insurance in Anticipatory Action
We are proud to highlight the publication of our new peer-reviewed paper, Innovative Solutions for Building Climate Resilience: The Role of Climate Risk Insurance in Anticipatory Action, in SN Business & Economics, authored by members of our Climate Risk Finance Solutions Team.
Drawing on expert interviews across the humanitarian and insurance sectors, the study explores how Anticipatory Action (AA) and Climate Risk Insurance (CRI) can be better connected to strengthen disaster preparedness and climate resilience. It identifies key barriers, including misaligned trigger mechanisms, uneven data quality, limited operational readiness and affordability gaps, while also examining how differing risk logics - actuarial precision in insurance and adaptive, people-centred decision-making in humanitarian practice - shape the feasibility of integration.
The paper concludes with practical recommendations, including strengthening data-sharing systems, developing context-specific trigger designs and embedding CRI within national social protection and disaster risk financing frameworks. As one of the first empirical cross-sector analyses of CRI-AA integration, the study provides actionable insights for advancing anticipatory risk financing and climate-resilient risk management.
