Become a Member

MCII is open to additional members! We would like to particularly encourage applications from Civil Society Organizations from the global south to improve our efforts to feature the voices of communities exposed to the impacts of climate change. If you are an interested individual with a background in the insurance or reinsurance industry, climate change and adaptation expert, a representative of an NGO or a policy researcher seeking solutions to the risks posed by climate change – please do not hesitate to contact us!

MCII is committed to diversity and inclusion and encourages the participation especially from all genders, nationalities and religious and ethnic backgrounds to apply and become part of the organization.

  • The MCII Membership is the heart of our organization. It brings together individual experts from a number of different fields, including research, development cooperation, think tanks and NGOs working on adaptation to climate change and/or risk management, the insurance sector, or the UN.

This initiative brings together insurers, experts on climate change and adaptation, NGOs and researchers intent on finding solutions to the risks posed by climate change. MCII provides a forum and gathering point for insurance-related expertise on climate-change impact issues.

Members shape and actively further the association’s vision and mission and support its activities. During the annual Membership assembly all affiliated experts come together to review recent engagements and discuss the future trajectory of the organization.

  • MCII requires active members (called “voting members” in the statutes) to pay membership dues of pay €120/year with the option to give more on a voluntary basis if you would like to more substantially support the financial standing of MCII (e.g. €240/year). It is obligatory for members from the Global North to pay the fee.For Members in the in the Global South it is not mandatory to pay, but they can voluntarily chose to pay nevertheless.

Sustaining members, in contrast, may make financial contributions to MCII.

Honorary members pay neither membership dues, nor do they have voting rights.

  • Voting members are encouraged to attend the annual general assembly, and otherwise be prepared to be actively involved in association affairs. For example, members may help promote the work of MCII by referencing it, referring to it publicly in presentations and other professional work that is in harmony with the professional work of that member. Members are encouraged to contribute, as interest determines, to development of project proposals, pilot projects, and papers for dissemination about climate risk insurance.

  • Stay up to date on insurance-related issues in the climate negotiations, developments in market niches such as microinsurance and pilot projects of innovative climate risk insurance programs.

Join a committed group who is helping to develop ideas that will bridge the gap between climate risks, and the potential of risk transfer tools to help facilitate adaptation to climate change.

Take part in climate and DRM/DRFI discourse with a broad range of MCII members from different backgrounds.

Access to detailed briefings and information about events in relation to the climate change debate (e.g. UNFCCC, World Bank/IMF, G7, G20, etc.) including the option to apply for access to events.

Link to project teams of the MCII Project Office at UNU-EHS (e.g. CRAIC, PICAP, ADB Myanmar, CLIMADA, etc.)
