Leaving No One Behind in the Digital Era: Pacific Insurance and Climate Adaptation Programme
Pacific Island countries are highly vulnerable to natural hazards such as cyclones, floods, earthquakes, and droughts, which result in significant economic losses. Climate change is exacerbating this vulnerability by increasing the frequency and severity of these disasters, thereby worsening economic impacts. The region faces a critical gap in insurance protection, leaving many affected populations with limited resources or relying on delayed government assistance, often pushing them into poverty and economic hardship. To address these challenges, the Pacific Insurance and Climate Adaptation Programme (PICAP), jointly implemented by UNCDF, UNDP, and UNU-EHS, aims to enhance climate resilience and financial preparedness in the region through the development of innovative insurance solutions and adaptation strategies.
