Mainstreaming Risk Understanding in Public Strategies
Building effective and inclusive climate policy requires a comprehensive understanding of risk; one that goes beyond economic impacts to account for social, political, and geographic realities. Climate-related disasters affect communities in different ways, shaped by varying levels of exposure, vulnerability, and governance capacity. Recognizing these differences is key to designing public strategies that are responsive, equitable, and grounded in local contexts.
At MCII, we work to embed climate risk understanding into public decision-making. We support policymakers at all levels through tailored training, transparent methodologies, and access to data, code, and user-oriented analytics tools. Our approach combines empirical data, probabilistic models, and community-level insights to help governments and institutions develop robust, actionable strategies.
By offering tools that conceptualize and quantify risk, we help decision-makers evaluate long-term climate threats and adapt accordingly. Through this work, we aim to ensure that risk understanding becomes a core component of public strategies—supporting proactive investments, improving resilience, and closing protection gaps for the most vulnerable populations.
