Florian is an economist working at the intersection of climate risk analytics, adaptation planning, and development policy. As Project Manager at MCII/UNU-EHS, he contributes to research and implementation efforts aimed at improving climate risk management and informing decision-making through data-driven approaches.

His work focuses on coordinating and supporting international projects that assess climate-related risks and explore adaptation and financial protection strategies. He has worked across a range of thematic areas including urban flooding, drought resilience, and national adaptation planning—helping develop analytics that support partners in identifying effective, context-specific responses to climate challenges.

A core motivation in his work is to bring a human-centered perspective into risk assessment. His research explores how climate impacts affect people’s ability to meet basic needs, and how this understanding can strengthen resilience and guide investment decisions. He is particularly interested in approaches that combine scientific evidence with policy relevance, making risk information more actionable for governments, development partners, and vulnerable communities.

Beyond research, he is engaged in stakeholder coordination, capacity building, and science-policy dialogue. He regularly collaborates with public institutions, NGOs, and UN agencies, and has contributed to training and teaching activities for students and practitioners alike.

Florian is committed to advancing applied research that supports real-world impact—bridging the gap between analytics and action in the context of a changing climate.
