Quantifying Losses & Damages

Understanding the full scope of climate-related losses and damages is essential for effective and equitable risk management. At MCII, we work to quantify both economic and non-economic impacts caused by climate extremes. This includes financial losses such as damage to infrastructure, agricultural disruption, and reduced productivity, as well as non-economic impacts like displacement, threats to food and water security, and the erosion of social and cultural assets.

Our approach uses probabilistic modelling to assess risks across various hazards and timeframes, providing a detailed picture of potential impacts. These models are grounded in socio-economic data and enriched with insights from affected communities through surveys and interviews. This ensures that assessments reflect real-world experiences and support tailored responses.

Non-economic losses, while less easily monetized, are critical to understanding how communities experience and recover from climate events. We work to integrate these dimensions into decision-making processes by producing risk insights that capture the full human and ecological cost of climate change.

By combining data-driven analysis with community perspectives, we enable governments and other stakeholders to design inclusive, evidence-based strategies that protect vulnerable populations and guide the development of climate risk finance solutions rooted in fairness and resilience.
